Repent and Find Peace and Confidence

Image result for non copyrighted images of Jesus cleansing the temple

In John 2:13-17 we read an account of Jesus driving money changers and those that sold sacrificial animals from the temple. Those who worshiped in the temple were required to use temple currency. The money changers made a profit in the exchange of Roman coins for temple coins. In turn, they used the approved temple coins to purchase sacrificial animals. None of this should have taken place within the confines of the temple. Hence, Jesus drove these commercial enterprises from the temple.

13 ¶ And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

Just as the Savior cleansed the temple, he can cleanse each one of us, if we let Him. He can help us to recognize our sins and repent of them, thus driving out of our lives everything that is unclean and unworthy. Then our body, the temple of our spirit (see 1 Corinthians 3:16), can stand pure before the Lord—worthy to receive the influence of His Holy Spirit. We can once again have a clear conscience and have peace in our lives and confidence in the presence of the Lord.

I pray that each day we will examine ourselves and make the needed changes to live worthy lives as defined by the example and teachings of Jesus Christ and His authorized servants.
